Rella was the culmination of an artist residency at Beaconsfield in London. The artists Michael Curran and Lucy Gunning started off with the idea of recreating Barbarella and then let the conversation wander into something that encompassed the multifaceted energy of making such a crafted gem as well as channeling the deeplyi dimensional character of Jane Fonda herself-Vietnam War protester to exercise self-help guru. Some invited artists/performers/musicians were asked to add something to the equation with all this in mind and the day was turned into something of a "Live" real and imagined film shoot that felt like the closest thing to being in Andy Warhol's factory scene that one could imagine... only perhaps even more on the fringes...
